Tonight Schiff played on a Bösendorfer. It didn’t serve Haydn well, but as the concert progressed, the music sounded better and better.
The couple of encores were the most mesmerizing yet heartbreaking. Schumann was completely new for me. I first thought it was Brahms untill H.A. corrected me. He played all the repeats of the Goldberg Aria. For a moment I thought I was about to hear a complete performance of Goldberg until some idiot screamed “bravo” and that was it.
